The Memory Tree

Sandhurst Memorial Park

November 2005

Artist / Poet Paul Conneally

An event to celebrate the end of World War II 60 Years On

Organised by Agostina Hawkins for Bracknell Borough Council UK

take the workshop

out into the park

football pitch touchlines

the skate park

The Coffee Spot Café

enjoy encounters

 with people not out

to make art to write poems

explain quickly

what haiku might be

today

every person approached

makes a poem

the skateboarders

keen to as they put it to

‘stop doing nothing’

get to grips with thoughts of war

peace and the season of autumn

write the poems out

on rice paper

 hang them in a tree

the memory tree

later

we release paper doves

 watch them fly high

into the november sky

and wish for peace
